Some examples of these ADAS systems include: Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Breaking System, Driver Status Monitoring, Traffic Sign Recognition, Pedestrian Detection and Blind Spot Monitoring.  If so equipped, the camera’s proper operation is a critical component of your vehicle’s advanced safety system.  These systems rely upon cameras, lasers, and radar – often with the camera mounting to the windshield.  Any time a new windshield is installed, the camera must be recalibrated to ensure proper functionality and to restore the camera to Original Equipment by the Manufacturer (OEM) specifications.

If a car’s ADAS is not properly calibrated, the system may not function safely.  If the cameras/radars/lasers on the vehicle are off by even a few millimeters they may not give accurate readings and the system may not function properly.  A misaligned camera could jeopardize the functionality of the system and lead to dangerous driving or accidents. Windshield recalibration will prevent such dangers by ensuring the camera is properly aligned and we strongly encourage that you have a recalibration performed.  There are two types of calibrations – dynamic and static.

• Dynamic recalibrations take less time and can often be done on location with a test drive. Once our scan tool puts the camera in a calibration mode, it requires driving the vehicle at a set speed on well-marked roads to calibrate the camera system.
• Static recalibrations may take up to several hours and require a closed, and controlled environment in order to properly recalibrate.  It requires a specific target image (or multiple targets) and a specific location (or multiple locations) in front of the vehicle during the recalibration process.
